A web acquaintance pointed me to Wired magazine’s homage to the six-word story. If you haven’t read the article yet, it’s an interesting peek into the creativity of many thoughtful science fiction, fantasy and horror writers.
What is a six-word story? It’s essentially a six-word phrase or sentence that attempts to convey the core conflict or intrigue of a story with just six words. The best one I’ve read is one by Ernest Hemmingway that is often quoted: “For sale: baby shoes, never worn.” We may never know many details, but in those six words we can imagine an abundance of pain and suffering that a paragraph would only belabor.
Not all such stories are nearly so deep, but take a look for yourself.
And if you get inspired, leave one here in the comments or here at the original blogger’s site.
